Is your body just a way to get your head to meetings? ‘Remembering Your Body’ classes for Desk Jockeys | Open House/No-Fee Calls

istock_000007185737xsmallAre you aware of your body almost always in a slightly curved shape, chin towards your chest, like some kind of walking shrimp?

Have you observed that forcing yourself to stand up ‘straight’ in ‘good’ posture makes no difference, as soon as you stop paying attention?

Is there a way of being more comfortable at your desk, and having more movement available to you when you’re not there?

What about this sneaking sense you have of your eyes becoming as flat as the surfaces you look at for most of the day…what curiosity do you have about this?

The learning I’m doing in the body-awareness arena is creating profound affects in my well-being, and as part of my learning process, I’m holding two open house calls in which I will lead you in some gentle and intriguing movement sequences.

Each class will be an hour, with time for discussion and application. You will need to have a way of listening to the call while moving your body on the floor without being hindered. A speaker phone or wireless headset will do; even a cordless phone would be fine.

Size of space you need is about the size it takes for you to make a snow angel on the ground without hitting anything. Carpeted is preferred, but hard floors are OK – you can put down a beach towel.

There is no fee for these calls other than your own long distance charges.

Date/Time: Wednesday, October 7th and Tuesday, October 13th from 1000 to 1100 am Pacific/ 100 to 200 pm Eastern / 600 to 700 pm GMT)

Also…for further interest, here are three basic assumptions behind the classes; future classes will address other sensory-motor connections, and link those to leadership in thought, creativity and productivity in your work.

(1) Desk Jockeys sit for long hours at a time in a position of flexion.

(2) Desk Jockeys repeat limited movements with arms and little movement with their legs.

(3) Desk Jockeys use their eyes all day mostly in a 2 dimensional way looking at flat surfaces such as paper, laptops, etc.

This groundbreaking medium and material is available to you as a member of the Thought Partners International community. Classes will be recorded for my learning purposes, and if deemed appropriate, MP3s sent out. The best way to be assured of experiencing the material is to attend live. As my training in this material progresses, more formal classes and offerings will be made. Thank you for your interest and support!

  1. Andrea, I read your email with such joy!
I am thrilled that you are exploring the
    importance of our bodies.

The focus of my business is now on
    the extreme importance of a
Healthy Body – Healthy Brain in
coping with family health challenges such
as Alzheimer’s and having a thriving life
    and business.

I’m developing my portal site at
    http://www.suzanneholman.com that
    will then link into http://www.alzheimersinthefamily.com

  2. Terrific, Suzanne, our paths continue to align. :) It’s such an important conversation you’re spearheading. Have you been in touch with Dale Susan Edmonds, by chance, owner of http://www.talk-early-talk-often.com and who commented at the BestofThomas.com blog here: http://snipurl.com/scgyr ? I believe you may have synergy to create. Looking forward to having you in class!

  3. Hi Andrea,
You could not have hit the nail more on the head than with these observations. What a wonderful offering. I have been both taking tutorial in and teaching a body awareness/pain erasure method known as “Balance” (http://balancecenter.com) since 1993. Balance, a series of small movements and postural adjustments, not only got me walking after three years of lower body paralysis, but literally saved my life by taking me out of excruciating pain, and into ease of movement.

I give a dollop of these learnings to each telelass I teach and much more in live workshops, but you’re once again providing a great pointer that those of us who have it, need to teach this information much, much more. Thanks, as always, for leading the way!

BTW…there is a corollary to the “forward shrimp”, and that is the “backwards C” that we get when we buy into the military stance of chest up, shoulders back, spine achingly arched backwards. This is what most people think of as “good posture” but it is the cause of many spinal and internal organ problems.

Hit the “history” link on the Balance site & you can see Balance Center director (& my teacher) Jean Couch doing this “backward C’ in a yoga pose as well as the balanced posture, plus get a little history of Balance or “Aplomb” as it’s called in France, where it was started by yoga teacher Noelle Perez Christiaens. This practice was invented by watching the last vestiges of balanced posture that exist in industrialized societies that still have graceful elders and younger people still in Balance – Portugal, Africa, Bali, Honduras, Thailand, Guatemala, etc.

For anyone reading this who has massive dysfunction to minor joint pain, I highly, highly recommend Balance. While as with most methods, lessons with a teacher are best, the Center has a DVD that will help you get the basics down – and get out of pain.

I am very much looking forward to your classes Andrea, and hope the above info can help someone like I was, pre-Balance, who might be suffering. Suffering is indeed optional. ;-)
