Pamela Slim breaks out (some more) this week… Escape From Cubicle Nation: From Corporate Prisoner to Thriving Entrepreneur
April 26, 2009 by Andrea J. Lee

What do you get when you combine
Dilbert + Peter Drucker + Dr. Phil = ??
Unlikely as it may seem visually, the answer is Pamela Slim according to a very funny book review. Pam is author of the ubiquitous blog and new book of the same name “Escape From Cubicle Nation” due out Thursday April 30.
What a delight to support Pam in the virtual party for her accomplishment. This one needs some great salsa and eats…a night sky filled with stars and the sound of lots of friends laughing…cue that would you?
And oh. Even though it doesn’t officially launch for a couple days, there’s no harm at all in pre-ordering, the better to get your copy first. It’s a truly supportive, practical book that’s much needed for many. I work with entrepreneurs who’ve already made the leap, but Pam guides those that are on the path to the leap, and that is sacred work.
Check it out here at Amazon or at your favorite bookseller won’t you?
Hip hip hurry, Pam! Much confetti to you!
Michael Port is at it again… Think You Can’t Change The World? Think Again. The Think BIG Manifesto
April 26, 2009 by Andrea J. Lee
It took a long time for the review copy of Michael’s fourth book to arrive in the mail. Michael joked that it got stopped at the Canadian border for being political propaganda…
While that may seem like an icky way to describe it, it’s accurate, at least in some respects.
Respect #1: It represents a big risk.
After sticking with some very tried-and-true arenas for his first 3 books…Book Yourself Solid, Beyond Booked Solid and The Contrarian Effect, this book is what many would consider a risk. It’s not a ‘how to’ per se. It has no direct connection to your bottom line. It’s an out-on-a-limb opinion piece shouted from the mountain top for the simple reason that Michael believes, wants you to know why and is entirely transparent about it.
Respect #2: It’s emotionally charged and authentic.
For that reason it will doubtless piss some people off. And it will make the blood move faster in the veins of some readers. If everything is energy, Michael has infused this book with his characteristic boldness, quality of character and fortitude. The result is a work that will challenge readers to overturn the status quo. You know that feeling you get when the trumpets blare and a call-to-arms is unleashed? That’s the sound effect that’s really needed here.
Respect #3: If it’s your kind of message, you will feel as if you’ve come home after a long time alone.
The reader reviews at Amazon demonstrate this rather remarkably. Clearly, Michael has tapped the conversation taking place in the minds of many to rise up and do something about the stuff that matters.
Check out the gifts and rallying Michael is doing today only, for The Think Big Manifesto.
Big congratulations on your fourth, MP! I’m doing the happy dance for you…

Note: Physical copies of The Full Practice For Coaches 2-Volume Print Book and CD set (shown above) is included for participants in the print program.
“The first class was thought-provoking as well as information-packed! I got enough value just in the first class to justify my fee for the whole year.
I’m looking forward to learning so much more.”
– Gina Hiatt, Founder, Academic Ladder and the Academic Writing Club
Click here or on the graphic above to access one of only 7 newly-available seats at early-bird pricing*, and be in time for class #2 on Thursday this week.
*Due to some enrolment changes and adjustments between digital and print formats, we’ve unearthed just 7 empty spots in the very small total # of seats for this affordable and energizing program. Don’t delay if one of these is for you…
Presenting the first print volumes of… Thomas Leonard’s Full Practice For Coaches: 100 Time-Tested Lessons From Coaching’s Founding Father
April 26, 2009 by Andrea J. Lee
At long last, the 700+ pages of this magnus opus are available in print, fully-indexed and cross-referenced, up-to-date, with Thomas’ writing spirit spilling from each paragraph.
Though I’d be hesitant to do a final tally of the number of hours we’ve invested here (compiling, editing, shaping, etc.) it has been well worth it in order to begin shipping this two-volume, two-CD collection to 5 continents.

If you’re interested in obtaining a copy of this treasured set for yourself, hit reply with ‘PRAX collection’ in the subject line to let us know. Currently it’s shipping only to members of the Thomas Leonard Success Strategies Program whose fees make this production possible. When we are able to release it more widely, we’ll let ‘PRAX collection’ respondents know first.
For now, it’s enough to relish the cover, and flip through the pages with a slow-burning happiness.
There are many more such projects to come and I hope you’ll look forward to celebrating them all.

Now Hiring A Community Supported Journalist To Actively Cover The Coaching ‘Beat’
As a person of many hats, one of my most enjoyable gigs in the last 18 months has been Director of Strategic Development for the not-for-profit organization founded by Ruth Ann Harnisch called The Harnisch Foundation.
In fact, the HF, as I fondly call it, is undertaking another exciting strategic endeavor for coaching, and coaches.
It’s happening right now.
Based on the belief that independent reporting is essential to bring transparency to the field, the Harnisch Foundation is seeking to fill…
A One-Year Full-Time Paid Position For
A Community Supported Journalist (CSJ)
The full job description, mission and objectives are below, and I invite you to peruse it if only to open your mind to the kind of strategic thinking you can be doing in your work on behalf of your constituency. (You don’t have to be a not-for-profit foundation to take a stand for something, after all; I’m sure Ruth Ann would agree.)
My request of you…
After you’ve read the posting, I ask that you please spread the news of this available position through all the networks at your disposal.
We are looking for a very special person who will come to represent you and me, and all of us forward-thinking, working coaches, after all.
Will you take a moment to post the position description at your blog, include in your newsletter, hand-forward to people you know, who know people? If every coach like you does this just once, I’m certain we can find the right person.
Can you tell I really want for us to find the right person?
To easily spread the news, send everyone to http://tinyurl.com/hireCSJ or feel free to forward this email.
When I think deeply about what a CSJ will mean for coaching, my heart beats strongly with happiness.
Thank you for doing your part.
P.S. What do you hope a Coaching CSJ will cover/reveal/say/provoke/investigate? What questions and answers would become possible with a Community Supported Journalist on board? Think like you’re on the board of directors of the newspaper this person works for. What assignments or stories, would you put on the list for pursuit?

Have You Visited This Special Space Lately?
Among the dialog occurring there:
- What do you do, say, or feel if someone asks “Is Coaching just friendship, for sale?”
- The Emperor’s New Coach Training…
And even…
- The Church of Coaching!
Find the latter mention in the comments section of one of the posts. The most provocative commenters seem to be particularly attracted to The Coaching Commons. You might feel very at home!
Also, the next Uncommon Conversation – a no-fee teleconference call – is actually later this evening TODAY/Tuesday, on the topic of The Perfect Question, by Lable Braun, an author and thinker I have mentioned to you before.
Go here to register now, or receive a copy of the recording for this sure-to-be deep conversation.
Remember, some of the charm of the space at the Coaching Commons is due because:
- it’s uniquely non-commercial and not-for-profit
- it’s unaffiliated with any coach training school or organization and therefore apolitical.
As a result, all manner of open discussion and radical exploration can be pursued – and is. I mean really, look again at the topics above. Go on, I know you’re just a little curious about what else is there. To become part of this community, visit and bookmark:

License To Tweet Website Launches To A Flock Of Enthusiastic Tweeples At, You Guessed It, Twitter.com | Thomas Leonard Success Strategy #8: Shamelessly Leverage Others
April 9, 2009 by Andrea J. Lee
The lighthearted website we launched this week is a great example of something else Thomas was known for, sometimes controversially, and that was the use of volunteers.
Leveraging others can become a negative thing, but when done right, it is a thing of business elegance, and everyone feels like they got a great deal. This has come to be known as developing your business evangelists, and by other names, but I call it simply “shamelessly leveraging others” or Thomas Leonard Success Strategy #8.
Shamelessly because when it’s a win on both sides, there need be no shame involved, only joy.
So in addition to visiting www.LicensetoTweet.com to pick up some terrific Thomas Leonard-isms for your tweets, or just plain old inspiration for yourself, check it out from the point of view of this direct question:
How can you equip other people to enthusiastically align with your cause and help drive it forward?
Visit www.LicensetoTWeet.com now won’t you, and see what else you can decipher between the lines? I look forward to hearing how you apply this for yourself.
