Thanks for the insight. Like others that responded here many of your points hit home. It is encouraging for me to know that I am not alone and by following my instincts I am doing the best for my clients.

It seems quite a few of us (me included) felt #3 hit home. I certainly don't want that but your questions and comments have got me thinking 'am i slipping into rescuer some time?
Thanks for raising it. I'm off to relook at one of my clients that I think I might be pushing this envelope with. I appreciate SOOO much the feel of the reins on me!

The more I learn about the vast differences in "coaches" and "coaching" on a global scale, the more important I think it is to discover what values we all endorse.
Whether a coach is certified, degreed, branded, franchised, trademarked, published, or none of the above, we can all agree on some of Andrea's points.
Do no harm. They're all "done" someday. Don't foster dependency. It's all subjective. Link with others who stand for something.
Integrity is key.
Thanks, Andrea.

I was in marketing and financial services before transitioning into coaching. The greatest lessons I continue to carry from that experience are 1). people want to know what sets you apart from others, 2). you must be able to articulate what you stand for and what you offer and 3). in the end, people "buy" from those they connect with and trust. To me coaching is no different. Every industry has its poor examples and unfortunately they tend to be the ones that get the most attention and reflect poorly on others. I love your openness to criticism Andrea because it reflects your integrity. We must all remember we are walking billboards.

Spot on as always AnZe!

The one that 'pings' for me is the business about wanting to hang on to clients.

When we get close, intimate, it can be hard to let go -- kind of like watch your children leave.

It helps to remember that they may return -- as friends as colleagues ... and that if I have been effective as a coach it's like a litte bit of me going out into the world. Or, is that arrogant?

Best, Lyle

Great list! I especially love (3) Cultivate self-sufficiency always. Be a no-addiction zone.
As a massage therapist, I flinch when a client tells me how great a job I do, or how much I am their healer. I am mindfully aware that all I can do is be a facilitator to their own healing process. I try to gently, but firmly remind them that they already posses all the wisdom and knowledge needed for the results they desire.

Andrea, Good Coaching Prediction #3 about the continuing criticism of our industry. Some things never change. Isn't it easy to criticize things that are working to help make our world a better place to live.

The one I really like is "be a no-addition zone." You are right, there is a very fine line between attracting a client through successful marketing and creating an addictive relationship. The first is coming from a place of opening to abundance and the other clutching from lack.

Excellent list!!! One thing I would add though, of course, is the good old Golden Rule that states one should do unto others as one would expect or like others to do to you. That never came across any clearer to me than when I used to be both managing and waiting tables at a restaurant. That was a challenge, and since then I have never gone into a commercial eating establishment with the same attitude ever again.
