Andrea’s Personal Top 5 Ways to ‘Un-crap Your Day’ for Business Owners Who Work at a Computer

(1) MOVE
Little urgent matters that crop up in a day can have a way of keeping you mesmerized by your email, never more than arm’s length away from your computer. Could your laptop be throwing off a magnetic force or something??

Snap out of it with a little online yoga.

For me, this easy 38-minute workout is tantamount to breaking out of jail, some days. And yes, you guessed it, it fits nicely between telephone appointments, with time for lunch.

Like the idea of a fresh yoga practice from the convenience of your home? Online yoga, it turns out, is the cheapest most efficient workout I can find.

(2) SHUT OFF INPUT
Being too full is one of the most common reasons for feeling like crap, and nothing’s worse than crap except when it overflows, wouldn’t you agree?

Closing my eyes and just shutting off any more input is one of the first ways to put a stop to it all. If I’m worried I might fall asleep, I’ll play a long piece of music and let the end of the piece cue me to come back.

Or, if you’re so inclined, you may like the Jacuzzi Room at the Sacred Home Spa:

(Aside: The Jacuzzi Room is a great example of a dynamic Pink Spoon)

(3) PLAY A CUTE GAME with SILLY MUSIC

Overusing my head can make my ‘engine’ run too hot, and just like a car, usually a breakdown is imminent. I spend more time cooling my jets at this site than I might admit to my husband, but sanity is worth it, I tell ya!

Bubble Bees is my current fave.

(4) PULL A COSTANZA
If something’s not working, a little or a lot, stop and try heading in the direction of the energy flow, often the opposite of where you’ve been pushing.

If you’re writing and running into weirdness, consider swapping the verbal work with something visual like picking colors or photos for a graphic design.

If you’ve been doing a lot of talking, and frustration is mountain, try swapping the oral processing for listening – pull out the MP3 player.

If you’ve read ‘Multiple Streams of Coaching Income,’ this is a recap of the chapter on ‘Pulling a Costanza,’ also known as doing the opposite…

(5) LAUGH AT SOMETHING

Purposely looking for something to laugh at can sometimes feel like trying to tickle yourself, but you may surprise yourself if you start creating a routine around it.

This series of 3 websites usually does the trick for me. What kind of stimulation does your funny bone crave?
