Corey Rudl Was Here (1970-2005)
My husband isn’t an internet marketer so I explained it like this.
“Corey Rudl (pictured at left) died yesterday.” I said.
“Who’s Corey Rudl?” he asked.
“Well, he was like a Steven Spielberg of the Internet World.
He did a lot of innovative things like bring new technology to the mainstream and was one of the very first to have a real office in downtown Vancouver where he ran multiple internet businesses.
When so many of us worked from home and people had to phone us before they could fax anything, Corey gave the profession of internet marketing a lot of credibility.”
(Mike’s a budding film director so I figured I’d use an ‘is like’ or example from close to home.)
“Yikes.”
Some of you dear readers may know that the Multiple Streams of Coaching Income membership was originally built using one of Corey’s latest products called the Desktop Marketer.
The first time I met Corey was when he asked to interview me because of the success we had using the Desktop Marketing tool.
It was a funny interview because it was entirely pre-scripted, which was unusual in my experience. I admit I went off script a couple of times just to see what would happen, and of course, it was all fine.
I don’t have a copy of that interview, but I asked Ken McCarthy, founder of The System Seminar to share his. It’s a good one, and you’re welcome to download and save it somewhere to an MP3 player or something.
Ken introduces the call:
“Corey didn’t speak very often about himself but one day, four and a half years ago, I got him to tell his story. It’s fascinating and there’s much to learn from it for all of us.
I think it’s also a good way to remember this remarkable man who contributed so much to our industry.”
On a personal level, Corey’s death gave me a bit of a pause in another way. I’d just turned 35 the day before he died, and had spent a good bit of time celebrating because the way I live, I used to think I’d never make it to 35.
Then the next day the press release came through that Corey had died at 34.
None of this is to be taken for granted, is it?
Congratulations Corey, on living such a full life, rich in so many ways.
