Facing the things you hate may help get other things done

by admin

Have you ever noticed that when you’re trying to do something you don’t like, along the way, you get lots of other things done?

Perverse, I know. :-)

I developed a heinous dislike of paperwork and bookkeeping at the age of 11 when I spent a summer entering receipts into those blue ledger books. From fear of Dad, I remember the sweat under the hair at my neck as my “I don’t know” pile got bigger and bigger and the shoebox full of receipts seemed to stay the same.

Now it’s a full 23 years later and darn it, but I still hate bookkeeping. I’m eager to find a system that works though, and along the way to figuring some things out tonight…(meeting with a new bookkeeper helper tomorrow!)…I also got done:

> clipped my fingernails…love the feel of newly clipped nails
> some checks in the mail
> various and sundry email replies
> returned a few voice messages
> oh and this blog post

The point? Take what you will, but for me, I’m reminded yet again how much my business is a vehicle for self growth like none other. I’m responsible for the state of my accounting, and responsible to my clients and my team. If I have to face old demons to ensure my business continues to grow, it’s what I’ll do, one step at a time, one month of records at a time.

If it were just for little old me? I probably wouldn’t. Honest.

How is your business helping you be a better person? Grow as a person? How could it?

How could you grow as a person in a way that would grow your business?
