Why Jerry Seinfeld is like Blogging

by admin

chat.gifI just saw Jerry Seinfeld do a guest spot on the Jon Stewart show, one of Canada’s Late Night Shows. (Quite funny, thanks Jon!)

And I realized that Jerry Seinfeld, the show, not the man, is like Blogging.

You know the old saw about the TV show “Seinfeld” right? “It’s the show about nothing.”

Which isn’t true, strictly speaking, but the point was of course that there really was no plot to the series. There was no character growth to speak of, over the course of years that went by. And yet, it was incredibly funny and entertaining. Possibly the funniest ever television show in the history of the world.

So what can we bloggers learn from Seinfeld about Blogging? Well, ever episode of Seinfeld was about him, where he was in his life, exactly at that moment. Whatever was going on, whatever learning or message came out of whatever daily activity…was enough. It was more than enough in fact, to keep millions of viewers coming back, laughing and learning, for many long years.

How can our blogs reflect who we really are, and where we are really at in our lives in a way like Seinfeld?

If you’re blogging, this is the big question to ask. Because the degree of authenticity you can relay in your blog…”how real you can really be” on your blog…will determine the depth of relationship with you readers. And relationship, after all, is everything right?

Seinfeld knows this. He’s using his relationship with millions of citizens to now launch a new breed of commercial… 5 minutes long, and viewable only on the internet…he’s the new spokesperson for American Express commercials featuring Seinfeld and Superman.

The number of views of the commercial are enormous, and American Express is reportedly tickled pink.
