The Contingent Coach

The most coaches I have had at the same time has been three. All three were coaches I paid fees to. It was a difficult time in my life and they were incredible. So very helpful. But more about that another time.
The curious thing is, I know many coaches don’t have coaches themselves.
If you’re one of those, let me ask you: If there was a coach who you paid fees to ONLY if you increased your income as a result of working with them…
…would you?
I can’t think of many people who wouldn’t. But feel free to comment otherwise.
As a concept, getting paid on a contingency basis is not original by any means.
Recruiters, Lawyers, Real Estate Agents, and all manner of professions who simply use contingency as a marketing tool. “If you can’t see your face after I shine your shoes, you don’t pay.”
But take Speaker Trainer John Childers, impressive gentleman that he is. He offers a training that he calls “the most expensive training in the world” that “gets you into the most lucrative profession in the world.”
For that training, he charges $20,000.
Putting aside the specifics of that training for the moment (and yes, I would buy this training in an instant if I wanted to become a speaker…)
It’s the way John bills for the $20,000. It’s a lump sum of $4,000 up front. Then $16,000 is payable over time, as you the speaker earns money on the speaker circuit.
Contingency.
Right?
What John is saying with this seems to me to be extremely powerful.
“What I am offering you is so solid, I am willing to be paid based on your success in my program.”
When I heard John Childers speak in December 2003, he said that no one who followed through on his program has – so far – defaulted on their payments.
Wow.
